Sulfonamides in Tomato from Commercial Greenhouses Irrigated with Reclaimed Wastewater: Uptake, Translocation and Food Safety

چکیده

The presence of antibiotics in crops is mainly caused by their irrigation with reclaimed wastewater and the use organic amendments animal origin. During this work, fate sulfonamide tomato crop has been assessed two commercial greenhouses located Almería (Spain) irrigated wastewater. Samplings were made annually for years. Sulfonamides several parts plant (roots, leaves fruits) as well wastewater, soils analyzed UHPLC-MS/MS. results showed that sulfonamides accumulated (sulfamethoxazole between 2 14 µg kg?1; sulfadiazine, sulfathiazole, sulfapyridine, sulfamerazine sulfadimethoxine concentrations below 1 kg?1) at ng L?1 range. Their distribution plants depended on sulfonamide. detected sulfamethazole, sulfamethoxazole sulfadimethoxine. Sulfamethoxazole was antibiotic highest concentration fruit, exceeding 30 kg?1. All Acceptable Daily Intake, however, further studies legislation are needed to assure food safety.

Sorption of organic compounds to humin from soils irrigated with reclaimed wastewater

Article history: Received 17 October 2007 Received in revised form 11 February 2008 Accepted 26 February 2008 Available online 14 April 2008 Humin is an important fraction of soil organic matter that is known to tightly bind many organic compounds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of humin as a natural sorbent in soils irrigated with freshwater and treated wastewater. To mee...

Sorption and mobility of pharmaceutical compounds in soil irrigated with reclaimed wastewater.

Use of reclaimed wastewater for irrigation is an important route for the introduction of pharmaceutical compounds (PCs) into the environment. In this study, the mobility and sorption-desorption behavior of carbamazepine, naproxen and diclofenac were studied in soil layers sampled from a plot irrigated with secondary-treated wastewater (STWW). Carbamazepine and diclofenac were significantly reta...

Ecological risks of polycyclic musk in soils irrigated with reclaimed municipal wastewater.

HHCB (1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8-hexamethylcyclopenta-c-2-benzopyrane) and AHTN (7-acetyl-1,1,3,4,4,6-hexamethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene) are found in reclaimed municipal wastewater. They may accumulate in soils receiving long-term application of reclaimed water thus adversely impact the soil biota. We evaluated the extent of their accumulation in receiving soils using HYDRUS-1D base...

Assessing the soil quality of long-term reclaimed wastewater-irrigated cropland

The properties of soils may be characterized by many attributes. However, there is not a systematic procedure to objectively select the measurement parameters that may be used to assess soil quality. Following the data collection, it is often a dilemma to decide how many and which of the measured parameters should be included in the assessment as the outcomes may be influenced by the parameters...

Uptake of carbamazepine by cucumber plants--a case study related to irrigation with reclaimed wastewater.

Reclaimed wastewater is an important source of irrigation in semiarid and arid zones. Here we report data on carbamazepine (CBZ) uptake by cucumber plants in hydroponic culture and greenhouse experiments using different soil types irrigated with fresh water or reclaimed wastewater. Data obtained from the hydroponic culture experiments suggest that CBZ is mainly translocated by water mass flow, ...
